Family is everything.
As time goes on, you appreciate more and more that the stories our loved ones hold in their memory are your stories, your history.
In 2007 I realized that my dad wasn’t getting any younger. I decided to sit down with him and record the telling of his life, his history. Later that year, we lost mom. Five years later, we lost dad too.
It was then that I realized what a gift I had given myself, my kids and my grandchildren.
I documented his life story and thus traced where we all began. I had captured time and held it in my hand. A collection of memories that detailed lives lived, losses endured, and happiness found. I got to know about the people I never met. The people who were responsible for me being here. It was mine to hold and to pass on.
I was so grateful, and in a way, I was hugely comforted knowing I could watch and listen to my dad anytime. Grateful, too, for his caring and willingness to share it all in vivid detail.
It was then I thought of the idea of capturing people’s memories, their stories on film and saving them digitally so they would always be a part of the family. A very personal compilation of the trials, tribulations and glories that brought us all to where we are.
And then to go one step further … to capture those moments that are of epic importance: birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, wedding and baby showers … the list is endless.
I nurtured the idea in my mind, and after careful contemplation I decided to create a business that would give others the blessing of memories saved.
Some business ideas come from having a brilliant idea. Some come from loving something so much you don’t want to lose it.
Plessner Digital was born from both.
I’m the luckiest guy in the world to be able to give other people what I gave myself and my family; a personal documentation of your family, your history, lineage and ancestry, and the rare capture of life’s priceless moments. Straight from the people who love you most and who mean the most to you.
Memories are amazing things. They comfort, guide, enlighten, and make us laugh and cry. To create something that speaks to you with love and immortal meaning; well, it doesn’t get more awesome than that.
The privilege is all mine.
Mitch

Wow…what a wonderful story. Such a worthwhile mission.
Jan,
Thanks for the comment. If you have any family memories you wish to preserve, just let me know.
After my wife of 40 years passed away last year, the blessed memories of countless togethernesses have emerged from a grateful heart to the parade ground of the mind. As a journalist, I wished I had sat down with her and interviewed her, and videographed her, so that our grandkids, and who knows, maybe their grandkids as well, could clearly appreciate the beauty and hear the wisdom of a divine being in their lineage. Your message, Mitch, reminds me of the need, after all these years, to take out the cassette tape that holds the story of my own grandmother who I interviewed in 1984. She died in 1993 at age 102. I started transcribing it years ago but didn’t continue. I will now.
good to hear from you Martin. Thanks for the comment. Hope you are well.
Beautiful ❣️ I wish I knew more of my family now gone.
What a beautiful telling of your story! Mitch, I know exactly what you mean because–thanks to you–I have the video you created of my parents talking about their lives and their memories. What a blessing to have captured that less than 6 months before my mom lost her battle with cancer. Coincidentally, I read your poignant blog post today, the anniversary of my mom’s passing. Today more than ever, I treasure the precious gift of my parents’ stories that I can turn to whenever I want. Today I can hear my mom’s voice and see her smile. Thank you, Mitch. And I hope others will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity while they can.
Thanks Lisa. I realized the timing earlier today. Hope you are well. See ya soon
What a wonderful inspiration to start your business and then create memories for others.
